Episode 2: May 1939

Welcome to episode two of Legends of the Batman, the show covering everything Batman — from the beginning! The show’s premise is a simple one. Each episode, we cover a month of Batman, be it comic books, television, movies, whatever, starting with his first appearance in 1939.

This time out, Michael Bradley and Michael Kaiser take a look at all Batman material released in May of 1939, which consists of a single issue, DETECTIVE COMICS #28, where Batman takes on Frenchy Blake and his band of jewel thieves, and has way too much fun doing it!

Things We Learned:

  • Super-ventriloquism has nothing on bat-voice-changing;
  • Batman’s favorite killing move: “the bat-elevator”;
  • Sometimes even the Batman thinks way too much;
  • It’s always good to confess when being hung from a window;
  • Batman delivers in 15 minutes, or your criminal mastermind is free!
